The Regusta C Project is the result of a multi-year, highly detailed boatbuilding endeavor led by Hans Gustav Zimonkowski, known online as VideoGustav. The project took place in Breiholz, a village in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, situated along the Kiel Canal. Construction began in the early 2010s and culminated in a full launch around 2020, with ongoing refinements and voyages continuing into 2025. The goal was to create a fully livable, custom-designed 12-meter steel motorboat, weighing approximately 18 tons and composed of over 15,500 individual parts. Driven by Gustav’s passion for engineering, navigation, and craftsmanship, the boat was built almost entirely by hand in a private workshop. It features an insulated steel hull, extensive interior carpentry, a six-cylinder Deutz diesel engine, a remote-controlled steering and propulsion system, and a full domestic interior including a bathroom, kitchen, and sleeping quarters. Launched via a large mobile crane directly into the Kiel Canal, an event broadcast live by NDR Fernsehen, the Regusta C was immediately taken on successful test voyages across the Eider River, Tönning, Rendsburg, and along the Nord-Ostsee-Kanal, validating its hydrodynamic performance and mechanical reliability. This boat is not just a personal achievement, but a showcase of independent boatbuilding and the precision possible through years of self-driven innovation and collaborative local support.
