Russian missiles and drones kill civilians in Kyiv as Ukraine seeks urgent reconstruction aid

Russia has intensified its aerial assault on Ukraine, launching hundreds of drones and missiles in successive nights. Kyiv was hit again overnight, killing two and injuring dozens, following the war’s largest barrage a day earlier. Strikes have overwhelmed Ukrainian air defences, with the Podil district suffering damage to homes and a clinic. The escalating attacks have driven war recovery costs to $500 billion, deepening national trauma. Several world leaders meeting in Rome pledged $11 billion towards Ukraine’s reconstruction. Kyiv is urging the release of frozen Russian assets to fund rebuilding and vital air defence. Ukrainian officials stress the need for immediate Western arms shipments as further strikes loom.
